Wear Navy Ships, British Citizens Evacuated from Libya


Tripoli - The situation in Libya is not conducive, making the British government immediately conduct evacuation of its citizens there. They were evacuated by boat.

"A British naval ships have evacuated British citizens from Libya," according to the British Ministry of Defence, as the deteriorating security there are forcing thousands to flee, as reported by Al Jazeera, Monday (08/04/2014).

"HMS Enterprise, which has been scaled back in the Mediterranean, has evacuated 110 people on Sunday, August 3. Majority of British residents of the capital Tripoli, according to the British Ambassador to Libya Michael Aron via Twitter.

"A number of passengers were transferred to the Enterprise with a boat, and were equipped to move that way," the ministry said in a statement.

By 91-meter survey vessel designed to support amphibious operations, is expected to arrive in the near Malta, Monday, August 4 this.

In addition to the evacuation of its citizens, the Foreign Ministry also suspended its embassy operations in Libya for a while. British consular staff were evacuated Monday, August 28 last.

British evacuation operation on Sunday, August 3 is similar to that of 2011, when the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi ruler.

British evacuation decision, Aron continued, with heavy hearts to be done because of the deteriorating security conditions. "The fighting has increased in Tripoli, including in the vicinity of the British embassy," said Foreign Ministry spokesman.

"Related to the deteriorating security situation, we take steps to temporarily suspend operations in this British embassy in Tripoli, after the departure of the British citizen who planned this," the ministry said.

"We advise against all travel to Libya and urged British nationals in Libya to leave through regular commercial services."

Conditions Libya since the overthrow of Gaddafi unstable. The new government is not capable of dealing with armed groups that had helped get rid of Gaddafi, and the emergence of conservative religious groups.

Fighting between rival factions has forced the closure of Tripoli International Airport, while the Ansar al-Sharia is fighting against the army special forces in the eastern city of Benghazi.

On Sunday, the battle for the airport, killing at least 22 people. Meanwhile, the oil depot hit by a bullet had caused a fire in Tripoli mass.

In the past week, many countries have ordered its citizens to leave Libya. Return home or move to another location that is more secure.

According to data from the British kebubes in Libya, about 300 people lived in the country UK.
